South Downs Shoreline Management Plan
1st Review.

Work has now been completed on the Review with submission to Defra expected b the end of June 2007.

The Review was carried out by the Halcrow Group. It was one of the first three SMPs around the country to be reviewed; as such the study was a pilot to test the various methodologies set out in the 'Interim Procedural Guidance', which led to the new SMP Guidance (see side bar on this page).

The public consultation period closed in early April 2005. A sub-committee of the Group then considered of all of the comments received and authorised a small number of textual changes (there were no changes to suggested policy). The adoption draft was then considered by all of the operating authorities within the Group as well as the Environment Agency's Regional Flood Defence Committee

The final draft contained a small number of typographical errors; these are now being corrected and the final version will be be submitted to Defra shortly.

When Defra's agreement is received the Plan, as well a revised Information Leaflet, will be posted here . Persons and /or bodies that made comment on the Consultation Draft will be contacted to explain how their comments were dealt with and to offer a CD copy of the final agreed Plan.

In the meantime, the Consultation Draft can be viewed here. This is also available on a CD which also contains various suporting information e.g. Report Appendices, the original public information leaflet and the posters and PowerPointŪ presentations used during the public consultation period
