Beach Monitoring

The Environment Agency (with its predecessors) have monitored the beaches of Sussex annually since 1973.

Arun District Council monitored its beaches, four times a year, from 1995 until 2001. Files containing the data collected by Arun DC will be available for download shortly.

An applet will also available to enable the interactive viewing of this beach profile data.
In the meantime please click on the link below to request data.

A bold new intiative received Defra approval in 2002. The new Regional Beach Monitoring Project conbined all of the previous monitoring projects, such as Arun's, into a single scheme for the whole of the Southeast of England. The coast will be subject to regular and harmonised monitoring, with data being gathered in three sub-areas and managed and archived etc in a single 'Observatory'.

More information on any of the above monitoring schemes can be found by clicking on the appropriate link in the side bar of this page.
